Very few people come to counselling feeling completely at ease. Making the decision to look for a counsellor means all is not comfortable or easy in your life and you would understandably like to implement change or find direction. It’s really important to remember that counselling is for everyday people having some difficulties, something we all experience at some stage in our life. There is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed of in seeing a therapist. Even so, for the majority, the idea of counselling can be daunting. It’s a personal experience where you share in depth and private details, often with a lot of questions being asked, making you open up even more than you might have expected. For some people opening up isn’t as hard as it is for others. Other people do not trust easily or are simply more introverted. No matter whether you pride yourself on being a free talker or you are more insular, there is always a fear of discussing your relationships, no matter which relationship that is, and discussing yourself openly.

It is imperative that you feel comfortable with the person you choose to listen to, guide and assist you. The first session is a good measure of how you feel with me as your counsellor and for the foundation to be laid about how we can  work together for the best possible outcome.

My practice has always been a caring, professional, directional service in a private, comfortable, non-clinical setting. I have a code of conduct and ethics that I adhere to that ensures the utmost privacy and protection of my client’s details at all times. I am an independent third party helping to assist you with absolutely no judgement. There is very little I haven’t heard, seen, experienced or worked with in over thirty years of clinical experience.

I pride myself on making people feel at ease and comfortable. You will generally talk to me prior to/while making an appointment, that often helps the process.

**Please note that all sessions are being done via Zoom or for individuals if you have an iPhone we can Facetime. (2024) There is no face-to-face at this time due to COVID-19 and a close immunocompromised family member. Zoom does a great job and allows me to counsel people effectively and safely, my clients enjoy the comfort of being at home for therapy, no need to bring in babysitters, no need to travel. People can also be in 2 different places at the same time, in different states, and I have clients in different countries. Because of Zoom I counsel people near and far. It does not affect my ability to read body language or the emotional temper of my clients – I hope this gives you comfort.
